OVERCOMING DEPRESSSION
OVERCOMING DEPRESSSION
“And Jesus answered, "Why are you afraid? You have so little FAITH!" Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm.” Matt. 8:26 (New Living Translation)
In order for us to overcome depression, we must put our faith in Christ. He is the only one who could heal us. Here are several suggestions how to do that:
RENEW YOUR MIND. You must control the thoughts that pass in your mind. Whenever you sense that bouts of depression are slowly coming in, beware. You must learn to renew your mind. Screen those thoughts carefully. Then, reject thoughts that will make you depressed. Do not even give even a foot-hold to them. Do not give in to them. Resist them. Throw them out. Discard them. Get rid of them. Throw them away. Stand firm in your faith. Then, you will begin to sleep better. You will begin to eat well. Your mind will become stable. Your interest in your daily activities of life will return. Your mind has been renewed. Faith can grow again.
Ephesians 4:24 (NLT) – “Instead, there must be a spiritual RENEWAL of your thoughts and attitudes.”
RESTORE YOUR FAITH. Once you have rejected those evil, thoughts, it is time to put in good thoughts. It is time to restore your faith in God. You must then read the Word of God. Enjoy His word as you read. Memorize God’s word. Meditate on the verses that you have memorized. Put God’s word in your heart and mind. Then, spend more time with God in prayer. Cast all your cares upon Him. Be thankful to him. Rejoice in your salvation. This will give vitality to your tired body. This will give new interest to your thirsty spirit. Then, I assure you that you will be able to overcome depression by your faith in Christ. That is the only way to win the war. That is the only treatment to cure depression.
Acts 3:20 (NLT) – “Then wonderful times of REFRESHMENT will come from the presence of the Lord…”
It is God who gives us the victory through faith in Christ alone.
